A group of Mom friends decided to take the kids to cool off with some ice cream as a celebration. There ended up being a ton of little ones and they all laughed and played in the hot summer sun. I looked over and saw that my kids had ice cream running down their arms and all over their shirts.
When it was time to go, all four of them got back into the car, sticky and sugary. I'll never know what possesed me, but for whatever reason, I decided that it was as good of a time as any to go and get their back to school haircuts.
WHY would anyone take four young kids at once to go and get a haircut to begin with, let alone, when they're hot, sweaty and covered in ice cream? I don't really have the answer to that...I know one person that will never do it again though.
The place that cuts their hair is always fun and easy going, but even they had to take a double take when we walked in the door.
"What is all over them?!"
"Oh, hee, hee...sorry. We just had some ice cream,"
You could see the expressions on their faces as they wanted to say, "SOME ice cream?! Did they EAT any of it or just roll around in it?"
The two older boys took their seats and the sissors began to snip away. There was hair sticking to places no haircut has ever seen before. To top it all off, when they were done, the women gave each of the kids a lollipop for sitting still during the cuts. If you've never seen a sticky hairy kid eating a sticky hairy lollipop, it kind of looks like a deranged, new version of a muppet.
Needless to say, when we got home, I made all of them jump into the bathtub and wash the day away...sugar, hair and all.
Yes, it was a good first day of school to say the least. New teachers, new friends, new haircuts...here's to hoping though that tomorrow will be even better...with a little less sticky, but just as much sweet.
