There we were, just the six of us squished together from head to toe as it poured rain outside. Every time another bolt of lightening hit, our daughter would climb up through our arms a little higher. "I don't LIKE those!" she kept saying. Within a matter of time, the storm finally subsided and the movie actually became the focus of the room.
Out of nowhere, we heard "boom, boom, BOOM!" My husband and I looked at each other through little arms and feet and questioned, "Fireworks?" They sounded big - like professional fireworks but who in their right mind would have a crowd of people sit through the storm we just had? We all jumped out of the bed and went to the window. Sure enough, through the trees was a huge fireworks display. It was amazing. It doesn't get much better than being able to watch something like that from the comfort of your own home but again, WHO would be out there in that weather?! Ahhh yes...the weather. Each time a big "BOOM" would light up the sky our daughter grabbed onto our necks with a death grip. "I don't LIKE THAT!" My husband looked at me and whispered, "Are you KIDDING me?! Is she going to associate the thunderstorm with fireworks now?!" It became almost impossible to enjoy the beauty and amazement of the unexpected fireworks display. How many times would we EVER get to enjoy such a show from our own window only to have this child climbing and attaching herself to our throats. We had to take turns peeling her off of each other to catch a breath.
The good news is, it was a fantastic show and just about the coolest surprise we could ask for to remind us to celebrate and appreciate this great nation...the bad news is, we have already made plans for tonight to actually go and WATCH a huge fireworks display for the Fourth of July. Here's to hoping there's not a thunderstorm too!
Have a Wonderful and Happy 4th of July!!!
